Working within the Digital team and in close partnership with IT architecture, information security and business stakeholders, the engineer translates ambiguous business needs into scoped, shippable solutions; uses AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while rigorously reviewing, testing and hardening AI-generated code for correctness, security and maintainability; and establishes the practical development, deployment, documentation and code review standards that govern custom software at USB. The role advises on build-versus-configure decisions — including sound judgment about when not to build custom software — defines approved deployment paths with architecture and security partners (Azure-first options, rapid application platforms, infrastructure as code and CI/CD), and supports citizen developers with guardrails and code review.
