Industrial & Smart Machinery Developer

Cefriel is a center of Research, Innovation, and Education that has been supporting national and international companies for over 30 years in the development of advanced digital solutions. Within Cefriel, the Smart Products & Industrial Solutions business line works on projects focused on smart machinery, smart factories, and the digital transformation of industrial processes.

We are looking for a Developer with 3-5 years of experience to join projects aimed at designing and developing digital solutions for the industrial and smart machinery domain. The selected candidate will contribute to the design and development of software components and algorithms enabling new generations of digital industrial machines capable of collecting, processing, and exploiting operational data to deliver advanced services (intelligent monitoring, predictive maintenance, process optimization).

On these machines, AI and computer vision algorithms are employed to interpret machine behavior, evaluate operational states, detect anomalies, and assess production progress. These analyses are used to generate insights, predictive suggestions, and prescriptive indications to improve efficiency, quality, and operational continuity.

The candidate will work within multidisciplinary teams and will be involved in the following activities:

• Analysis of production processes and information flows, including interviews with technical and operational stakeholders;
• Collection and analysis of functional requirements;
• Design and development of back-end components for the acquisition, management, and storage of data from industrial machines;
• Implementation of AI and computer vision algorithms for image processing and identification of anomalies, operating states, or production progress, as well as generation of insights and predictive/prescriptive suggestions;
• Development of communication interfaces between cloud platforms, edge IoT modules, front-end applications, and third-party systems (REST APIs, MQTT);
• Support in laboratory testing activities and validation of solutions at client production sites;
• Participation in meetings with client companies and research centers, both on-site and remotely.

Required skills

Master’s degree in Computer Science Engineering or related fields (computer science, automation).

Knowledge of one or more of the following

• Environments and platforms: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, DBMS and NoSQL databases, Git version control
• Architectures and protocols: client–server applications, microservices-based cloud platforms, REST APIs, MQTT
• AI & Computer Vision: experience with libraries such as OpenCV, PyTorch, YOLO, Streamlit, MOG2
• Domain knowledge: interest in industrial systems, smart machinery, and automation
• Languages: Fluent Italian and English

Type of contract

Full-time permanent contract under the Italian Metalworking Industry National Collective Agreement (CCNL Metalmeccanico Industria Privata), with a gross annual salary between €30.000,00 and €45.000,00, depending on experience.
