About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental, Milan within the Finance Department in Milan, the Director of Finance is responsible for the supervision of all members of the Finance & Purchasing Department, for the determination of optimum control objectives and for the installation and maintenance of appropriate internal control systems over income, expenditure, assets and liabilities within the hotel, budget and forecast process and finance meetings with Corporate MOHG finance and Owners. The Director of Finance reports to the General Manager.

Responsibilities

• Direct, manage and support the development, implementation, maintenance and administration of all financial operations, controls and accounting procedures, based upon a maximization of internal control techniques consistent with Group corporate management established policy and generally accepted accounting principles, as adapted to the requirements of the hotel’s management contract and other local legal requirements.
• Play an active role in the management of the hotel and exercise a responsive attitude to the needs of the General Manager and other members of the hotel management team.
• Ensure compliance to terms and conditions of the hotel’s management contract, with specific regard to provisions relating to the company’s responsibilities as the managers and bringing any discrepancies to the immediate attention of the General Manager and group corporate management.
• Actively search for opportunities to improve the profitability of the hotel and encourage the preparation of exception reports and analyses to help meet and measure the success of this objective.
• Manage, supervise and support all subordinate employees, with a view to optimizing the profitability of the hotel and improving the guest experience.
• Initiate employee development and evaluation programs for all subordinate staff to ensure the highest level of professional competence and efficient continuity within those positions.
• Organise an efficient treasury function to provide proper management of the hotel’s working capital and cash flow in accordance with Group corporate management minimum guidelines and within the requirements of the hotel’s management contract. Ensure excessive investment is not made in receivables or inventories and that sufficient liquidity is maintained to meet the hotel’s obligations.
• Comply with the MOHG Code of Conduct, requiring that all business activities and decisions comply with general law and all rules, regulations and other requirements.
• Cooperate and support the General Manager and the Human Resources department on strategic matters.
• Support learning and development activities of the finance and purchasing team.
• Adhere to all policies & procedures relating to Safe, Sound and Sustainable at Mandarin Oriental.
• Act as a hotel ambassador at all times.
• Carry out any additional duties requested by management, related to hotel finance operational activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 10 years of comparable experience.
• Extensive property hotel finance experience required.
• Proficiency in all Windows‑based software applications.
• Strong proficiency in Excel.
• Prioritisation skills necessary to meet deadlines.
• Effective management, leadership, organisational and communications skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in Italian and English required.
• Italian citizenship, structured working experience in Italy, general fiscal principles knowledge.
