The role

In response to our fast growth and market expansion, we are looking for a Senior Merchandising Consultant to work across customer engagements in category management implementation and ongoing service delivery.

This is a hybrid role: you will configure our platform end to end and bring real merchandising judgment to the customers you work with. It is not a pure advisory seat, and it is not a pure technical seat. 

What makes this role different

The hard part of this job is not the configuration. Our platform is UI-driven, and technical consultants support anything that lives in the database or the backend. The hard part is understanding the customer's world well enough to guide them toward a better way of working.

Your job is to understand the customer’s strategy and implement our tool  according to that strategy , not according to the workarounds they have lived with for years. That means walking in with an opinion. When a category manager asks “what do you expect us to do here?” you should have a recommendation, grounded in how the work gets done. 

Retail experience is what makes the difference here. When you understand how category decisions actually get made, you can ask the right questions early, help the customer move past old workarounds quickly, and focus the engagement on what will actually drive results.

What you'll do

• Work on customer engagements across one or more of our category management solutions, contributing to the full project lifecycle from discovery through go-live
• Contribute to discovery and process design workshops with customer teams – help structure the conversation, ask the right questions, and make sure the right people are in the room
• Bring industry best practice into your engagements – helping customers understand what good looks like and designing future-state processes that move them toward it, rather than replicating what they do today
• Support change management through the project. Where a requirement would create poor process or unwanted downstream effects, help them understand why – and what a better path looks like.
• Configure the platform to fit the customer's strategy – with guidance from senior colleagues and technical consultants supporting backend complexity. Build, test, and validate configurations while partnering with customers through User Acceptance Testing to confirm solution readiness
• Use AI-assisted tooling to build solutions for your engagements quickly, such as configurations, queries, dashboards, and lightweight automations tailored to the customer in front of you 
• Help establish KPI baselines and measurement frameworks before go-live, so value can be demonstrated clearly once the system is live. Develop analytical queries on customer datasets to deliver custom insights, performance tracking, and business case realization reporting that supports adoption
• Support training and user adoption. An implementation only delivers if people actually use the system – you will help end users build the confidence to rely on it day-to-day
• Build relationships with the operational teams you work with and grow into a trusted point of contact across the business, including with senior stakeholders as you develop
• Contribute to pre-sales activity as you develop your expertise: participating in demos, RFI responses, benefit analysis, and ROI development

What you'll bring to the table:

Required: hands-on experience in category management. This is the core of the role

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in category management, merchandising, space planning, pricing, promotions, or a closely related function at a retailer or supplier
• Practical understanding of how category management decisions get made and the tradeoffs involved – you have worked in the function, not just around it
• Experience leading customer-facing engagements, whether in consulting, implementation, or as an internal programme lead
• Strong analytical and problem-solving instincts, and comfort working with large datasets to find the answer and communicate value 
• The ability to translate a customer’s strategy into a software configuration that supports it
• Willingness and curiosity to use AI-assisted tooling to build things faster (we will help you get there if you are newer to it) 
• Comfort leading people through change and working across functions – category management does not sit in isolation, and you understand how it connects to buying, finance, supply chain, and marketing
• A self-directed and collaborative approach – you can find value and build a relationship without being told where to look
• Fluent English and Italian, Willingness to travel up to roughly 25% 

Nice to have

• Experience implementing or supporting enterprise software through a full project lifecycle (e.g. gathering requirements, designing processes, delivering training)
• Familiarity with AI-assisted tooling and a willingness to use it to work faster
• Technical data skills, particularly SQL – the ability to write queries, dig into data independently, and get to an answer without waiting on someone else
• Familiarity with demand forecasting and replenishment – enough to understand how category decisions feed downstream into supply chain planning
• A degree in business, economics, industrial engineering, supply chain, or a related field
• Fluency in additional languages (Spanish, French welcomed)

Where this role can go

As you build a track record, the natural path is to take on broader advisory responsibility for one or more customers, becoming their trusted voice on merchandising strategy, and grow toward a Lead Merchandising Advisor role. The deeper your practitioner judgment and the more fluent you become at building fast with AI tooling, the more impact you will have.
