The Legal Counsel supports the business from a contracts and commercial perspective across customer, supplier, and internal engagements. The role ensures that contracts are commercially sound, legally compliant, and appropriately risk-managed throughout the lifecycle—from negotiation through to execution and renewal. Role Overview - What’s ‘In-store’?
This role sits at the center of the commercial function, supporting contract renewals, new business agreements, and RFP processes. You will ensure contracts are deliverable, commercially robust, and aligned with internal policies and legal requirements, while securing all necessary local and European approvals.
You will work closely with Sales, Services, Legal, Finance, and other stakeholders across Europe, with a strong focus on Italy and Spain. Key Responsibilities
1. Customer-Facing – Contracts & Negotiation
Support negotiation of customer contracts, particularly complex or multi-jurisdictional agreements, in collaboration with European Legal teams
Partner with Sales and Services teams (primarily Italy and Spain) to support deal structuring, contracting, and closure
Ensure consistent use of standard contract templates across European markets, adapting where necessary to local requirements
Provide commercial and legal input to ensure contracts are balanced, executable, and risk-aware 2. Customer-Facing – RFP & Tender Support
Support European Sales teams in responding to RFPs, RFIs, and other customer procurement processes
Coordinate input from multiple internal stakeholders to develop high-quality, consistent submissions
Maintain and enhance a best-practice repository of standard responses for common RFP requirements 3. Internal Controls & Compliance
Co-own the contract lifecycle management process and system
Review customer contracts and related supplier/subcontractor agreements, engaging Legal, Finance, Tax, and Business Controls as required
Support compliance initiatives across Europe, including (but not limited to) data privacy, NIS2, Cyber Resilience Act, and other regulatory frameworks impacting the business
Ensure appropriate governance, approval workflows, and documentation standards are followed Who we’re looking for:
Skills & Competencies
Strong experience in drafting, negotiating, and managing commercial contracts with customers and suppliers
Solid understanding of contractual risk identification and mitigation
Ability to manage complex workloads and meet tight commercial deadlines (including renewals and deal closures)
Strong stakeholder management skills across sales, legal, and operational teams
High attention to detail with a self-motivated and proactive working style
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment
Strong team player with a collaborative mindset Experience Required
3–5 years’ experience either in a law firm (commercial contracts focus) or as in-house counsel in a corporate environment preferred.
Master’s degree in Law Languages
Ability to operate effectively in English and Italian is essential
Experience working in Spanish-speaking business environments is highly desirable as the role requires regular interaction with stakeholders across Italy and Spain. Personal Characteristics:
