We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer.

The Lara API team is at the heart of Translated’s platform engineering. We own and evolve the endpoints that power Lara, a SaaS product for AI-driven translation. Our work directly shapes the experience of developers and businesses worldwide who rely on Lara to move their content across languages at scale.

If you care about writing clean, reliable backend code that real people and real integrations depend on, this is your team.

You’ll work on meaningful problems: designing and shipping new API features, maintaining and evolving a microservices architecture on AWS, and integrating with AI and translation services to bring new capabilities to life. You’ll collaborate closely with other engineers, contribute to technical decisions, and have real ownership of what you build, even as someone earlier in their career.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend microservices powering the Lara API
• Own features end-to-end, from technical design through to production
• Work with our MySQL database and Redis layer
• Integrate with external services that handle translation and AI features
• Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving thoughtful feedback
• Write tests and take code quality seriously (without being dogmatic about it)
• Collaborate with teammates across engineering and product
• Write clear technical documentation that others can actually use

Requirements

• +5 years of experience in backend software development
• Proficiency in Node.js with TypeScript
• Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases (MySQL)
• Solid understanding of REST API design and server-side web application architecture
• Comfortable working with Docker and containerized environments
• Proficiency in Git and GitHub-based workflows
• Enjoys owning problems end-to-end and will go out of their way to acquire whatever knowledge it takes to get the job done
• Excellent communication skills, able to discuss technical topics clearly with both technical and non-technical people

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS services, especially ECS, S3, SQS, or Lambda
• Familiarity with Redis or similar in-memory data stores
• Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of Test Driven Development principles
• Experience with the Fastify and Express web framework
• Familiarity with rate limiting, quota management, or billing systems in a SaaS context
• Linux shell scripting and Unix system administration

Translated is hosted at Pi Campus, a working environment immersed in nature where 5 luxury villas in Rome (Italy) have been converted into functional offices to foster talent growth. Pi Campus is also a venture firm created by Translated to reinvest part of its profits into promising AI startups.

Our Offer

Based on a standard level of experience, the offered salary typically ranges between €35.000,00 and €55.000,00. The actual package depends on factors such as location, scope of responsibilities, and performance. Compensation generally grows quickly as experience leads to greater contributions. Exceptionally strong candidates may be offered salaries above this range to acknowledge their higher potential impact.

We offer a flexible remote work policy, combined with a requirement for periodic presence at our Rome HQ.
