Overview
- Responsible for ensuring the safety of personnel, the public, and the environment by monitoring and controlling radiation exposure in nuclear power plants, research facilities, and other nuclear-related environments.
- Implementing radiation protection programs, conducting safety assessments, and ensuring compliance with federal and industry regulations.
- Working closely with health physicists, engineers, and regulatory agencies to minimize radiation risks and maintain safe operations.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Developing, implementing, and overseeing radiation protection programs in compliance with NRC, EPA, and OSHA regulations.
- Monitoring radiation levels in nuclear facilities using dosimetry, survey meters, and remote sensing equipment.
- Conducting radiation exposure assessments and ensuring worker safety through ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
- Establishing and maintaining contamination control measures, including decontamination procedures and protective equipment protocols.
- Providing training and guidance to plant personnel on radiation safety, emergency response, and proper handling of radioactive materials.
- Assisting in regulatory inspections, audits, and reporting requirements related to radiation protection.
- Developing shielding calculations and assessing the effectiveness of radiation barriers.
- Evaluating radioactive waste management procedures to ensure compliance with disposal regulations.
- Investigating radiation incidents, performing dose reconstructions, and recommending corrective actions.
- Maintaining records of radiation exposure, contamination surveys, and safety compliance reports.
Who We Want to Work With
- Education: Master’s degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-7 years in radiation protection, nuclear plant operations, or health physics (entry-level positions may require internships or co‑op experience).
- Certifications (Preferred): CHP, NRRPT, or equivalent industry credentials.
- Understanding: Strong comprehension of radiation physics, dosimetry, and contamination control.
- Proficiency: In using radiation detection instruments (e.g., Geiger counters, scintillation detectors, ion chambers).
- Knowledge: Of NRC, EPA, and ANSI standards for radiation protection.
- Familiarity: With radiation shielding design, ALARA principles, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience: With radiation safety software and modeling tools is a plus.
- Strengths: Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Skills: Effective communication and training skills for educating personnel on radiation safety.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance.
Preferred
- IPO experience.
- Written and oral fluency in Italian.
- Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
