Lead Mechanical Engineer

About The Role:

Senior mechanical engineering leadership role overseeing delivery and commissioning on a major data centre project in Milan. Responsible for managing mechanical systems from design through handover while leading engineering teams, ensuring quality, safety and programme delivery in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all mechanical engineering delivery across the project lifecycle
• Coordinate mechanical engineering and commissioning activities from design through handover
• Manage and allocate engineering resources across work packages
• Oversee design management and ensure systems are buildable and test-ready
• Lead commissioning activities including testing, flushing, balancing and certification
• Ensure compliance with EHS and site safety standards
• Support procurement activities including RFQs, technical reviews and equipment selection
• Maintain quality control through ITPs, FATs, SATs, test packs and system handovers
• Coordinate with Electrical and CSA teams to ensure clear system integration
• Manage RFIs, technical submittals, deviations, change control and system trackers
• Identify project risks early and implement mitigation strategies
• Support project planning, sequencing and commissioning schedules
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors and design teams
• Mentor and support junior and graduate engineers
• Provide structured reporting to senior leadership

Requirements

• Strong senior-level mechanical engineering experience on large and complex projects
• Experience within data centres, pharmaceutical, industrial or mission-critical environments
• Proven ability to lead engineering teams effectively
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Practical and solutions-focused approach to problem solving
• Ability to work under pressure in highly coordinated project environments
• Strong understanding of commissioning, quality assurance and technical delivery processes
