Lead Engineer, Disciplinary Engineering and Science - Mathematics & Data Science

Overview

Lead AI Specialist for engineering and controls in the Energy Transformation industry. Implement AI algorithms in predictive maintenance, defect detection, control, robotics, design optimization, simulation, and unmanned inspections. Deploy production‑ready code in Cloud and Edge environments to improve energy product performance, reliability, and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define AI‑Powered Engineering workflows for product optimization and simulation.
• Lead technical development of research and development projects combining AI and engineering methodologies.
• Develop and integrate software components for AI applications according to customer and technical requirements.
• Evaluate and incorporate internal and external data sources.
• Propose and lead new data collection, cleaning, and validation activities.

Qualifications

• Experience in defining technical requirements for AI solutions in engineering applications.
• Deep understanding of machine learning and AI algorithms for regression, classification, and anomaly detection on tabular data with uncertainty quantification and explainability.
• Proven experience with dynamic data streams (time series) for regression, clustering, anomaly detection, and uncertainty quantification.
• Experience combining models with heterogeneous data sources and hybrid modelling approaches.
• Experience defining models for 3D/graph data types.
• Proven use of optimization algorithms (e.g., gradient‑based, model‑based, non‑parametric for parametric and non‑parametric inputs) and active learning.
• Experience with traditional control algorithms, model predictive control (MPC), and reinforcement learning (RL).
• Programming proficiency in Python and C++.
• Knowledge of agentic frameworks, model deployment techniques, edge serving, turbomachinery thermodynamics, chemistry, and rotor dynamics.
• Familiarity with databases, test‑driven development, and Agile development methods.

Compensation

Initial pay range: EUR 43,200 to 59,400. Collective bargaining agreement: Contratto Collettivo Industria Metalmeccanica e della installazione di impianti, Section VI – Titolo IV.
