Engineering Lead TRD RLT

Role Purpose
The Engineering Lead serves the Engineering organization for TRD RLT, responsible for establishing, maintaining and improving engineering processes with respect to buildings, equipment, utilities and energy. The Engineering Lead also provides engineering related tools and systems (calibration, engineering database, CMMS, Comos) and is responsible for the design, execution and hand‑over of major investment projects within cost, time, schedule, quality and functionality. The role ensures that equipment, infrastructure and investment projects are fully operational, meet regulatory GMP and HSE (including radioprotection) compliance, and are maintained through efficient, effective and innovative maintenance practices.
Main Activities
- Strategy: manage and execute projects in alignment with key local and global stakeholders, ensuring projects on site progress through all stages of scope, definition, approval and implementation.
- Responsible for the management and execution of all site investment projects according to asset life‑cycle management and project schedules, time, cost, functionality and quality.
- Ensure state‑of‑the‑art technical solutions comply with standards and HSE regulations, including radioprotection regulations.
- Develop and maintain the Engineering site strategy plan (Capex Plan, recapitalisation of equipment, budgeting, etc.) and oversee its implementation.
- Ensure the technical availability, reliability and condition of the production plants.
- Lead the sharing and leveraging of best practices and expertise within the Novartis engineering community.
- Lead the implementation of technology strategy and the approved equipment and project execution standards.
Leadership & Organization
- Be available, accountable, decisive, honest and trustworthy to a group of subordinate specialists.
- Plan resources for maintenance and calibration.
- Monitor and control backlogs of maintenance and calibration work orders.
- Select vendor and contractor.
- Ensure technical training of Engineering personnel: develop training curricula and execute training.
Quality & Compliance
- Support internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with the Quality Manual, Quality Modules and GOPs.
Maintenance & Calibration
- Drive and improve technical availability, reliability and condition of assets.
- Develop, monitor and improve KPIs for engineering.
- Establish cost‑efficient repair and maintenance processes in compliance with local regulations, HSE, and GMP.
- Define and execute asset strategy and proper asset life‑cycle management.
- Manage maintenance improvement projects and initiatives.
- Create and control the maintenance and calibration budget, driving efficiencies.
Ideal Background
Education (minimum/desirable): Degree in industrial field engineering or equivalent. Master’s degree is desirable.
Languages: Fluent written and spoken Italian and English.
Experience/Professional requirement: Ten years in plant engineering or a similar field. Leadership experience, including successful project management of major investments. Excellent project management skills, contract management, project appraisal and financial knowledge. Excellent communication skills, able to effectively present complex ideas and solutions to executive management, technical experts and regional/local teams. In‑depth technical knowledge in pharmaceutical processes, specifically aseptic processes and equipment. Wide interdisciplinary knowledge and experience in international, multi‑disciplinary complex environments.
