Within this mission, the LaJoie lab, as part of the Molecular Cell Research Centre, studies how proteins of the nuclear envelope function to promote human health. By doing so, we can understand how their dysregulation results in diseases such as muscular dystrophy and cardiomyopathy. With the combination of specialized resources and expertise at Human Technopole, we are uniquely able to address these questions and the molecular and cellular level.

Your mission

The LaJoie Group seeks a Postdoc to identify novel protein-protein interactions using in situ crosslinking mass spectrometry, characterize disease-relevant protein mutations biochemically, and perform protein perturbation experiments in cells to understand molecular pathways of diseases of the nuclear envelope. The position is suited for candidates from the fields of biochemistry, cell biology, and proteomics, who are interested in integrating diverse methodologies in a highly collaborative environment.

The role therefore provides the opportunity to integrate advanced techniques in cell biology (e.g. cellular perturbation approaches, light microscopy), biochemistry (e.g. single molecule studies), structural proteomics (e.g. crosslinking mass spectrometry), and the possibility to work with disease-relevant cellular model systems (e.g. iPSCs). Through mentorship and collaboration, you will strengthen your ability to formulate meaningful biological questions, design and test hypotheses, integrate diverse experimental data, and translate experimental findings into mechanistic and clinically relevant insight.

Key tasks and responsibilities

• Conduct innovative research activities and develop tailored methods and tools to support project objectives, ensuring accurate documentation of all research processes and findings.
• Generate, analyze, and maintain high-quality experimental data to support scientific publications, grant applications, and research reporting.
• Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, figures, and scientific communications for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at conferences and seminars.
• Mentor students and junior staff by providing technical guidance, training, and support in experimental procedures and data acquisition activities.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams, external experts, and research leaders to design research plans, manage experiments, and promote scientific knowledge exchange and project development.

Job requirements

Essential requirements
On the agreed hiring date, the candidate must fulfil all the following conditions:

• Ph.D. for which the thesis project was in biochemistry, molecular cell biology (or wet lab approaches applicable to molecular cell biology), proteomics, or a related topic
• Proven ability to lead projects independently.
• Experience analysing biological datasets.
• Experience in interdisciplinary settings, with a collaborative approach to advancing projects.
• Ability to write publications, present findings, and effectively communicate research to diverse audiences, including peers from different disciplines.
• Fluency in English (HT is an international research institute).

Preferred requirements

• Experience working with mammalian cell culture
• Light microscopy experience

Salary: up to € 43.000,00 depending on the candidate’ seniority.
The position is based in Milan, Italy, within our vibrant international campus.
