This is a genuine buy-side investment role, offering the opportunity to transition from investment banking into infrastructure investing. The position provides direct exposure to making and managing investments, rather than advising on transactions, with involvement across the full investment lifecycle.

Candidates should be aware that moving from investment banking to the buy side at this level may involve a reduction in base salary compared with current investment banking compensation.

However, this is typically offset by significantly stronger long-term career prospects, direct investment responsibility, exposure to portfolio management, and the opportunity to build a career within one of Europe's leading infrastructure investment platforms.

Our client is a leading European infrastructure asset manager investing across energy transition, digital infrastructure, transport and logistics, circular economy, and social infrastructure. The platform invests through both equity and credit strategies, partnering with institutional investors to create long-term value through essential infrastructure assets.

The Role

Our client is seeking a Investment Associate to join its Milan-based investment team. The successful candidate will support the evaluation, execution, and management of infrastructure investments across multiple sectors, working closely with senior investment professionals while taking increasing responsibility throughout the investment process.

This role offers exposure to the full investment lifecycle, including origination, execution, portfolio management, and value creation, within a highly regarded European infrastructure investment platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the evaluation and execution of infrastructure investments across both equity and credit strategies.
• Build, maintain, and take ownership of detailed financial models, including valuation, LBO, and project finance models.
• Conduct detailed market, industry, and company research to support investment recommendations.
• Coordinate commercial, financial, legal, technical, and ESG due diligence processes with external advisers.
• Prepare high-quality investment committee papers, presentations, financial analyses, and internal memoranda.
• Support transaction execution, including documentation review, process management, and negotiations.
• Monitor portfolio company performance and contribute to ongoing asset management and value creation initiatives.
• Track sector trends, regulatory developments, and market dynamics across the infrastructure landscape.

Candidate Profile

• 3–4 years of experience in Investment Banking, Infrastructure Private Equity, Infrastructure Funds, Private Credit, or Project Finance.
• Strong financial modelling and valuation skills, with the ability to work independently.
• Solid transaction execution experience, including due diligence and financial analysis.
• A genuine interest in infrastructure investing and real assets.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial investment environment.
• Fluency in English is essential; Italian language skills are strongly preferred.
• Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline from a leading university.
