The ideal candidate should have a strong enthusiasm for contributing to the design and implementation of Multimodal Foundation Models. Additionally, they should be capable of coordinating technical, communication, and team activities.

The project: DVPS

Translated has been awarded funding for the DVPS project, a collaborative research initiative worth 29 million euros over 4 years, which will be led by Translated. DVPS develops the science of multimodal foundation models and applies them to problems in the fields of Earth observation, language, and cardiology. DVPS is an acronym for the project’s motto, “Diversibus Viis Plurima Solvo”, meaning “Through various paths, I solve many problems.”

The project has computing resources that match its ambition. It is estimated to use 30 million GPU-hours provided by EuroHPC, operating on Europe’s major Exascale and Petascale computing infrastructures.

To ensure maximum impact, all research outcomes of DVPS - including trained models, datasets, and evaluation benchmarks - will be released as open source on HuggingFace.

You will be part of a team of researchers dedicated to DVPS within Translated's AI Research team, which works on several pieces of technology such as Large Language Models, machine translation, speech foundation models, privacy-preserving machine learning. The AI Research team collaborates closely with product and engineering teams and develops the technology to power Translated's next generation of products.

In this role, you will:

• work with data, compute and algorithms
• design of deep learning multimodal neural architectures
• design experiments, implement them in code, run them on large (GPU on HPC) compute, run evaluations
• monitor and benchmark the state of the art
• have the opportunity to give guidance to more junior team members such as PhD students and interns
• coordinate with our partners on our research roadmap
• adapt the project's pace to the rapid scientific development in our field
• organize publications and open-sourcing efforts

Requirements

• completed PhD or 4 years of industry research experience in a relevant field of deep learning, machine learning, either applied (preferably language, clinical medicine, Earth observation, robotics, vision, audio);
• experience guiding junior researchers, defining a research project and experiments;
• excellent programming skills: Pytorch;
• familiarity with Docker and Unix OS, including running GPU experiments;
• interest in carrying out experimental research;
• relevant scientific publications, teaching and research experience;
• excellent command of English.

• you're strong in GPU training and inference optimization;
• you're a polyglot;
• you have open-source contributions;
• you have published at tier-1 ML/AI conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, CVPR, ICCV.

Our Offer

Based on a standard level of experience, the offered salary typically ranges between €48.000,00 and €68.000,00. The actual package depends on factors such as location, scope of responsibilities, and performance. Compensation generally grows quickly as experience leads to greater contributions. Exceptionally strong candidates may be offered salaries above this range to acknowledge their higher potential impact.
