Venice Marine Senior Surveyor

RINA is currently recruiting for a Venice Marine Senior Surveyor to join its office in Venice, Italy within the  Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.​

Mission

The Senior Surveyor serves as an experienced and knowledgeable professional within the organization, applying expertise in maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry principles.The Senior Surveyor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement of surveying processes. #LI-MC1

Key Accountabilities

1. Subject Matter Expertise and Continuous Improvement:

• Serve as a trusted expert on maritime classification principles, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards, providing guidance to internal teams and stakeholders.
• Proactively monitor developments in maritime law, safety requirements, and technological advancements, recommending and implementing enhancements to survey techniques and safety programs.

2. Comprehensive Inspection and Reporting:

• Carry out detailed surveys and inspections on a variety of classed ships, offshore installations, and marine assets, verifying compliance with all classification society rules and statutory mandates.
• Ensure all survey findings are meticulously documented through timely, accurate, and technically sound reports and certificates that conform to organisational and regulatory standards.

3. Operational Planning and Team Leadership:

• Develop, schedule, and oversee surveying activities, coordinating resources to optimise operational efficiency and quality outcomes.
• Act as a mentor to junior surveyors, providing expert advice, training, and performance feedback to foster professional development within the team.

4. Client Engagement and Relationship Management:

• Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with clients by offering expert consultation and resolving technical issues effectively and promptly.
• Position yourself as a proactive problem solver, facilitating client satisfaction and reinforcing RINA's reputation for excellence and reliability.

5. Commitment to Quality and Ethical Standards:

• Implement rigorous quality assurance measures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and integrity of all surveying activities.
• Uphold the highest ethical standards by promoting transparency, integrity, and fairness in every interaction and survey process.

Education

Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications

•  Minimum 3 years’ experience working as a Surveyor or minimum 6 years’ experience in the engineering or inspection/survey fields with an IACS member Classification Society.
•    Understanding of RINA strategic technical positioning in the sector of the marine industry
•    Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of classification, statutory certification, related services and, before assignment, with their future work.
•    Ability to develop a working knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related
instructions, as well as the RINA Employee Safety Policy.
•    Ability to understand engineering plans and have knowledge of shipbuilding practices and ship
operations.
•    Ability, in general, to perform either,
1)    new building surveys:
−    to assess the suitability of certified materials and products supplied for the new building,
−    to assess that hull, machinery and equipment have been built in compliance with rules and regulations by means of compulsory inspections, tests and trials,
−    to issue Certificates, Reports, Records and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
And/or:
2)    ship in service surveys:
−    to assess that hull, machinery and equipment have been maintained in compliance with rules and
regulations by means of compulsory overall inspections, tests and trials,
−    to assess and follow-up the repair works to hull, machinery and equipment to assign a new period of class and a new period of validity to statutory Certificates in compliance with rules and regulations by means of overall and close-up inspections, verification upon dismantling, tests and trials (including surveys for Admission to Class of ships in service),
−    to attend major conversion works according with rules and regulations,
−    to identify the deficiencies to be rectified (if any) and assess whether immediate repair is necessary or a condition may be issued with an appropriate due date,
−    to follow-up as required by rules and regulations any repair work or due to previous outstanding
conditions,
−    to assess whether the deficiencies identified (if any) may be linked with potential failure of the Ship
Management System,
−    to endorse Certificates, issue Reports and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
And/or:
-    Marine Management Systems audits
And/or:
1)    testing activities and service suppliers/manufacturers certification:
−    to assess the suitability of certified materials and products in compliance with applicable rules
−    to issue Certificates and prepare Reports and Status in compliance with procedures.
•    Knowledge of ship engineering systems and machinery.
•    Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
•    Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.

Compensation Data

The salary range and job grade for this position are defined based on objective, role-related criteria and responsibilities in accordance with CCNL RINA (CNEL code I480). The gross annual salary range foreseen is between €45.000 and €55.000and will be finally defined on candidate’s professional experience, qualifications, competencies and overall alignment with the role.

In addition, an annual variable compensation component is provided, based on both Company and individual performance objectives in accordance with the current policies and collective agreements.The overall compensation package is complemented by the Company's welfare.
