We are looking for a Service Engineer, Mechanic to join our Mechanical Field Service team and support our customers with maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and commissioning of Wärtsilä products and equipment.

This is a field-based role where you'll work directly with customers, vessels, and engines, gaining valuable hands-on experience while contributing to reliable and sustainable operations across the marine industry.

The location for this position is Naples, Italy . When not working in the field, remote working is also available.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Service Engineer, Mechanic, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality technical support and service solutions to our customers.

You will perform advanced troubleshooting, inspections, maintenance, repairs, and commissioning activities on Wärtsilä equipment , helping customers maximize reliability and performance. Most of your time will be spent in the field, working closely with customers and experienced colleagues in dynamic and challenging environments.

As Service Engineer, Mechanic, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

• Execute planned maintenance and repair work on Wärtsilä OEM engines and auxiliary equipment.
• Perform overhauls and inspections of engine components onboard vessels and at customer sites.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues to identify root causes and minimize downtime.
• Carry out routine maintenance activities and technical investigations on engine components and systems.
• Support commissioning, testing, and performance verification of Wärtsilä equipment.
• Ensure work is completed according to Wärtsilä quality, safety, and environmental standards.
• Prepare service reports and travel expense reports accurately and in a timely manner.
• Work in accordance with company guidelines and QEHS requirements.
• Build strong relationships with customers through professional and solution-oriented support.

Requirements for the position

• A technical vocational qualification or technical high school diploma in Mechanics, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience in field service, maintenance, repair, or mechanical troubleshooting.
• Good understanding of mechanical systems, engines, or industrial equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
• Good communication skills in English.
• A practical, hands-on approach and a passion for solving technical challenges.
• Curiosity to learn new technologies and continuously develop your skills.
• Flexibility and adaptability in fast-paced and international working environments.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Willingness to travel extensively, including international travel when required ( up to 80% of working time) .

As an ideal candidate, you might also have...

• Hands-on experience working with marine engines, diesel engines, rotating equipment, or similar mechanical systems .
• Previous onboard vessel experience.
• Experience working directly with customers in a technical environment.

The annual salary range for this role is 28.238 EUR – 38.367 EUR in accordance with the salary provisions in the applicable National Collective Labor Agreement for workers in the metalworking and plant installation industry (CCNL Metalmeccanico).
